Day 8 - Seongsan Ilchulbong, Aqua Planet & Haenyeo (female divers)

Wednesday, November 26th, 2025

This morning we got up early and went to the nearby volcanic plug Seongsan Ilchulbong and watched the sun rise!

Jeju Island is famous for its citrus, particularly tangerines, which are for sale everywhere and absolutely delicious!

The we drove to the nearby Aqua Planet which is the largest aquarium in South Korea.  There were many stunning marine creatures there.  The largest tank has an acrylic wall 622mm thick, 23 metres long and 8.5m high.  The tank contains 5.000 tons of water!

Then we drove to Dendri cafe in the middle of a tangerine orchard and had some delicious green tangerine, orange tangerine drinks and desserts . . .

We drove back to Seongsan Ilchulbong where the famous Jeju female divers (Haenyeo) put on a demonstration for us.  These robust women dive for seafood.  Note the volcanic beach sand.

We headed west along the coastline towards our accommodation for tonight, stopping at It's Hyunjeong for a delicious seafood pancake.  Our accommodation tonight is near Seogwipo, which is the second largest city on Jeju Island, on the south coast.  This is the view of the sunset from our room.
